Earth Systems has provided geotechnical engineering and materials testing/inspection services for several phases of the West Grand Avenue Streetscape Project in Grover Beach, California, which focused on transportation improvements to the downtown corridor and the area between the beach and Highway 1. The initial phases involved sidewalk and street repairs, Class II bike lanes, construction of a new 10-foot wide concrete multi-use path, reconfiguration of travel lanes, new curb and gutter, crosswalks with decorative paving, lighting, installation of native dune landscaping, and a decomposed granite path for pedestrian and equestrian use.

The most recent phase consists of reconstruction of West Grand Avenue between 4th and 8th Streets, new bulb-outs, improvements to bicycle lanes, new storm drains, enhanced pedestrian crosswalks, sidewalk repairs, landscaping, and pedestrian lighting. Construction is currently in progress.

Earth Systems worked closely with the City of Grover Beach, the design team, and contractors to facilitate the smooth and timely construction of past phases of the project, the goal of which was to enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety while allowing visitors and residents to more easily access local businesses between the downtown commercial corridor and the beach.
