This approximately $5 million project involved the removal of unnecessary vehicle travel lanes to widen the sidewalks along the State Street Undercrossing in Santa Barbara, California, upgrading the narrow Class 2 bike lanes to Class 4 bike lanes, and shortening the pedestrian crossing distance at the intersection of State and Gutierrez Streets.

Other improvements consisted of the removal, realignment, and replacement of sidewalks, lighting, and fencing on State Street between Gutierrez and Yanonali Avenue.

Earth Systems provided geotechnical observation of earthwork operations; acceptance testing of construction materials for conformance with the City of Santa Barbara QAP; compaction testing; compression testing of concrete; identification, sampling, and testing of reinforcing steel; and sampling and testing of concrete.
