The Land Conservancy

In 2014, the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County purchased the 880 acres of land that was slated to be transformed into the Pismo Preserve. Funded through local and state governmental agencies, grants, and generous donations from the community, the Preserve would come to offer locals and visitors the chance to explore a scenic 11-mile multi-access trail system winding through a diverse open space of oak woodlands and chaparral with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean that had previously been closed to the public.
In addition to the trail system, the project also incorporated construction of a 54-space parking lot with public restroom facilities and an equestrian parking lot, retaining walls featuring native plant species, creation of an ADA accessible trail and bridge, site utility installation, and improvements to Mattie Road.
Prior to construction, Earth Systems prepared a Geotechnical Engineering Report that provided geotechnical recommendations for use in the development of plans and specifications for the ADA accessible trail, parking lot, and construction of the sidewalk, driveway, and parking areas along Mattie Road.
