Earth Systems was retained to provide updated geologic hazards and geotechnical engineering investigation reports for planned seismic upgrades for five existing buildings at Joshua Elementary School in Lancaster, California.
Earth Systems’ scope of work included review of previously developed geologic and geotechnical data, as well as additional subsurface exploration and laboratory testing for areas not previously investigated. The previously and newly developed data were reviewed and reports prepared to address the updated project and current building code requirements.
Updated geotechnical recommendations were provided for site preparation, foundations, and seismic design parameters. The geologic hazards assessments addressed existing geologic conditions, potential for geohazards such as nearby faults, strong seismic shaking, fault rupture, landsliding and rock fall, liquefaction, cyclic softening and lateral spreading, seismic-induced settlement of dry sands, flooding, areal subsidence and fissuring, and erosion.
