Arroyo Burro Open Space Footbridge

Waterways Consulting Inc.
Santa Barbara, California

Project Summary

This open-space park in Las Positas Valley along Arroyo Burro was acquired in 2016. A creek restoration project was completed in 2018, which included improving existing walking trails and providing creek-viewing areas. Earth Systems was retained to conduct a geotechnical engineering investigation for the bridge portion of the project. Phase two of this project was completed in 2022, and now a multi-use path for bikes and pedestrians crosses over a new footbridge into the park from Las Positas Road.

Quality Assurance Services

  • Provided a geotechnical engineering report
  • Performed a reconnaissance of the project site
  • Drilling, sampling, and logging soil borings
  • Laboratory testing soil samples
  • Analyzing the geotechnical data obtained

Scope of Work

Earth Systems’ scope of work included subsurface exploration, coring, infiltration testing, laboratory analysis of selected soil samples, geotechnical analysis, and preparation of a geotechnical engineering report.  The report addressed the findings of the subsurface exploration program, soil and groundwater conditions, geologic hazards, and provided geotechnical recommendations for grading, bridge and wingwall foundations, and frictional and lateral coefficients for project design.
