City of Ventura Announces Grand Opening of Westpark Skatepark

The City of Ventura celebrated the grand opening of the Westpark Skatepark on August 28th. Designed and built by world-renowned Grindline Skateparks, it is now the largest skatepark in Ventura County.

The event included remarks from local dignitaries and project partners, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and an open-skate session for the community.

Funded by a $1.9 million grant from the California Statewide Park Development and Community Revitalization Program, along with $322,000 from Fund 18 – Parks & Recreation Improvements, the project also benefited from grassroots support. Local skateboarders raised $10,000 to help expand and modernize the park.

The park has expanded from 3,200 square feet to 20,000 square feet, making it one of the largest skateparks in the region, including Los Angeles and Santa Barbara Counties. Enhancements include new landscaping, public art, and upgraded lighting.

Over the course of the project, the City hosted nearly a dozen public meetings to gather input on desired features, ensuring the final design reflects community priorities. This project also marks Ventura’s first-ever design-build contract, awarded to Grindline Skateparks, a Seattle-based firm with more than 20 years of experience and over 300 skateparks worldwide.
