This project involved the transformation of a stop-controlled intersection into a four-legged roundabout that serves many neighborhoods in the City of San Luis Obispo. The project included phased demolition and construction of new roundabout elements, including minor concrete, landscape features, pedestrian improvements, and roadway construction.
Earth Systems’ role during construction at Tank Farm Road and Orcutt Road included providing quality assurance testing and inspection for the City of San Luis Obispo, including material testing, compaction testing and inspection of soils during utility trench backfill and roadway grading, minor concrete placement and hot mix asphalt (HMA) paving.
Earth Systems worked closely with the construction management team and project owner to solve problems that arose in the field. The project concluded in August of 2022, resulting in a roundabout that efficiently managed high-volume traffic, increased safety, and improved multimodal connections at this critical intersection.
