The Civic Center Mid-Town Improvements project involved reconstructing the street pavement outside of Pasadena City Hall and installing brick-paved crosswalks that would be in keeping with the intricate style of the brick sidewalks originally designed by the City Hall’s first architects, Bakewell and Brown.
Earth Systems was retained to provide geotechnical and materials testing for the reconstruction as part of an open contract with the City to complete on-call geotechnical services.
Assisting the City Inspector, Earth Systems observed placement of concrete mix into sections of the plaza roadway, performed ACI quality control and sampling of concrete, and conducted density testing on subgrade, compaction testing, and laboratory compression testing of concrete cylinders.
