Earth systems provided the Seismic Design Values of the project site. Our observations and reports and were integral to ensuring the creation of a safe and lasting swimming pool.
The 60 feet wide by 50-meter long pool was built in 1929. The deep end about 10 to 12 feet deep.
Water records show that the water usage was nominal until about December 2017. The Thomas Fire brought much ash to the pool and the cleaning process involved pumping water out of the pool with trash pumps while sweeping the bottom. At some point in the cleaning process de-ionized water was used, but the quantity was not made clear.
Either after or before cleaning, the pool level dropped about 1 foot but stabilized at the level. Later the pool level was noticed to fall and that water usage was very high, and a leak was suspected. Over the next few months it was determined that about 1,000,000 gallons of water was being lost each month, equivalent to 30,000 gallons a day or 21 gallons per minute.
