The Garcia Road Bridge, completed in late 2005, is a cast-in-place concrete, single-span structure that replaced a narrow bridge over a local drainage that flows to Graves Creek. The bridge abutments are supported by cast-in-drilled hole (CIDH) piles. The bridge was constructed in two side-by-side sections, so that the road could be kept open to traffic at all times. Earth Systems’ services consisted of materials inspection and testing for the CIDH piles, assistance with inspection of reinforcing steel and concrete placement for the bridge abutments and deck, and observation and compaction testing of abutment backfill and the approach road subgrade, aggregate base and asphalt concrete.
