Stenner Creek originally crossed beneath the Foothill Boulevard Bridge via two 4-meter diameter corrugated steel culverts. Due to damage to the culverts and settlement of the street, the culverts were replaced with a concrete bridge; this project was completed in late 2005. The cast-in-place concrete bridge is supported by CIDH piles, with tied-back shotcrete and cast-in-place concrete abutment walls and wingwalls. Prior to construction, Earth Systems provided geotechnical recommendations for design to comply with the guidelines outlined in the Caltrans Guidelines. During construction, the Earth Systems team provided Resident Engineer (RE) services for the City of San Luis Obispo, as well as inspection of installation and materials testing for the CIDH piles, the tied-back walls, abutment and bridge deck construction, and observation and testing of fill and backfill placement.
