The Cal Poly Sports Complex, California Polytechnic State University, consists of a 2,500-seat baseball stadium, a 1,000-seat softball stadium, and associated restrooms, concession and dugout structures, several multipurpose recreation fields, a retention basin, a restroom/maintenance building, and two parking lots that can accommodate approximately 200 automobiles.
Earth Systems performed a geotechnical engineering investigation and provided geotechnical criteria for grading, foundations, retaining walls, pavement sections, and site drainage. As part of the study, two earthfill dams which were apparently constructed in the 1950’s were addressed. Because no records were available pertaining to their construction, planning for stabilization of the dams in the form of buttresses and drains, and the construction of adequate spillways was recommended.
During construction, the Earth Systems team provided grading observation and testing, and special inspection of construction materials.
