The Skills Center on the Allan Hancock College campus in Santa Maria, California is a two-story 18,600 square foot structure, of wood-frame construction with shallow continuous and spread footings, and concrete slab-on-grade. Exterior flatwork for pedestrian access and asphaltic concrete base pavement for vehicles is included in the project.
Earth Systems produced a soils engineering investigation for the project consisting of a site reconnaissance, subsurface exploration, laboratory testing, and geotechnical engineering evaluation of the data collected. Preliminary geotechnical recommendations were provided for site preparation, grading, utility trenches, foundations, slabs-on-grade and exterior flatwork, retaining walls, pavement sections, and drainage around improvements. During the construction phase, the Earth Systems team provided certification of grading operations, foundation excavation observation, and special inspection of concrete placement. Concrete compression testing was performed in our in-house testing laboratory.
