Nipomo Skate Park

County of San Luis Obispo
Nipomo, California

Project Summary

This project consists of an approximately 10,000 square foot skate park located within Nipomo Community Park adjacent to Tefft Street in Nipomo, California.  The park features a skate bowl up to 5 feet deep, along with quarter pipes, banks, ledges, flat bars, and a flow bowl.  Other site amenities will include a plaza area, picnic areas, and restrooms; ancillary work will involve street access improvements, a parking lot, lighting, and pedestrian walkways.

Geotechnical Engineering

Earth Systems conducted a geotechnical engineering investigation for the project consisting of borings, acquisition of soil samples, laboratory analysis of physical soil properties, and geotechnical analysis of data; they also performed an environmental assessment.  Geotechnical recommendations were developed for site preparation, grading, utility trenches, foundations, slabs-on-grade, and pavement sections.

Geotechnical recommendations were developed for site preparation, grading, utility trenches, foundations, slabs-on-grade, and pavement sections.  Geotechnical issues addressed included potential for settlement, excavation characteristics of the soil, suitability of the soil for use as general fill and backfill, soil stability, erosion, and the potentials for liquefaction and seismically induced settlement of dry sand.  Options for both conventional shallow and deep foundations were presented in the report.
